Lent, Holy Week and Easter 2021

Lent, Holy Week and Easter are going to look different this year due to the current restrictions, but fortunately not as restricted as last year when churches were closed from the 4th Sunday of Lent. It is our intention to try and celebrate the services of Lent and Holy Week in as close to as normal way as possible within the regulations and guidance set down by the Government, Health Authorities and our Diocese of Lancaster.

Lenten and Holy Week Services

Please attend in-person if you are able. For those who are housebound or shielding, you can follow us on our live-stream.

For those that come to church, please continue to follow the social distancing regulations as detailed on our COVID-19 page.

We live-stream services from St Kentigern's on both Facebook and YouTube. Please make sure you subscribe/follow/like us and turn on notifications on YouTube to know when we are broadcasting.

Holy Week

Booking is required for Palm Sunday (all), Maundy Thursday 7pm, Good Friday 3pm, The Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday (all).

Bookings are now closed for Palm Sunday 9:45am (Vigil and CtK still available), Maundy Thursday (all) and Good Friday at St Kentigern's (CtK available).

Please note that for this year only, there are two Good Friday services, one at each church, both at 3pm.

The Bishops of England and Wales have issued special guidance for Holy Week 2021. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this year it is not permitted for us to have the Palm Sunday Procession, Washing of the Feet on Maundy Thursday, physical Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday and the lighting of the Easter Fire amongst other things. CAFOD

Walk for Water

CAFOD are the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and during Lent this year they are running a campaign to support those living in poorer nations without easy access to clean water.

The coronavirus pandemic has shown how important it is to have access to clean, safe water. During these challenging times, your donation to CAFOD's Lent Appeal is needed more than ever.

They encourage people to sign up for a sponsored 10,000 steps a day during the 40 days of Lent. Have a look at thier website for more information and have a watch of the video below.

Family Fast Day

Friday, 26th February

This Lent, CAFOD's Family Fast Day is an opportunity to reach out to some of the poorest, most marginalised of our sisters and brothers.

Your donations go to highly-trained, highly-skilled local experts around the world who save and support the health of the world's poorest families. Without support like yours, thier work just couldn't continue as there wouldn't be enough funding to support it. But we urgently need your help to fund more local experts to reach out to even more people who need treatment, care and love.

On Friday 26 February, will you eat a simple meal in solidarity and give what you save to help people to continue thier life-saving work - helping the health of the world's poorest people? Through CAFOD's and Caritas's global Church family – one of the largest aid networks in the world – your support can reach to the ends of the earth.

We usually have an Easter Bonnet Parade in the Parish Centre on Easter Sunday after Mass. We won't let a pandemic spoilt our tradition so we'll do a virtual one instead. Please let us have any photos of your Easter bonnets, the crazier the better! You can add them to our Easter Bonnet post on Easter Sunday. Here's a colouring sheet for the children if you don't get chance to make one.

Social Events

Due to the current pandemic restrictions, sadly the Parish Centre is still unable to open. Following the government announcement of the timetable for the easing of restrictions on 22nd February, it is now clear that the Parish Centre will not be permitted to open in-time for Easter. We can however, assuming all goes to plan, look forward to fully reopening mid-May per the government’s published timetable for hospitality venues.
